    • Issue: Sex Trafficking in international communities
    • Inquiry question: How should the international community confront to Sex trafficking and third world prostitution?
  2. Draft a working thesis. Why is your issue important and what possible solutions would you propose?
    • Working thesis: Sex trafficking is a form of modern day slavery and people are unaware of this issue, yet it is happening worldwide. Solutions that I think will be effective is helping rural areas in third world countries by donating money, educating young girls, and spreading awareness.
  3. Likewise, Zhang (2011:523) interviewed pimps in a Mexican red-light district. Although some pimps reported using “persuasion” to recruit women, in general women “enter sex trade out of financial necessity.” Many organizations working with “trafficking victims” also found that the majority of the women know that they are going to work in the sex industry but are lied to about the conditions under which they will work, such as wage levels, and how much they need to pay their traffickers (Doezema 2000).

reading annotation blog #9: Choose one story from the first 200 pgs or so and connect it to a main argument that the authors make throughout the book.  Use 2-3 quotes from pgs. 100-202 to exemplify your story and/or the authors' overall argument.  2-3 paragraphs. I chose the story "Attacking Sex Trafficking." This story talks about the struggles of modern day slavery around the world. Reverend Becca helps these victims by getting them out of the streets and their pimps, and helping them find employment by her program. The author's main argument is that modern day slavery still exists and is very much a big issue. Becca's program helps victims start their new lives and prove that change is possible. "One of the first women whom Becca helped was Clemmie  Greenly, an African American woman who had been taped repeatedly beginning at the age of five and then systematically pimped from the age of twelve"(157). They Say/I Say 1-3 1. In the first chapter, it starts off with Dr. X never really sitting why he needs to be stating his thesis. Basically, the lesson learned in this is that the writer needs to indicate their thesis clearly and also explain your response on what others say. In chapter 2, the authors discuss the art of summarizing. They state that it is important to summarize other's work and building off of others ideas to your own.  You should only be biased when your opinion shows up. In chapter 3, it states the art of quoting in which quoting is not rewriting someone else's argument into your own words. 2. 1. "Another way of opening up a debate involves starting with a proposition many people agree with in order to highlight the point(s) on which they ultimately disagree"(26).
