Essay #3 Idea Draft

Choose a local or global issue from the book and develop an argument for why the issue is important and what 'we' as readers can do about it.
*FOCUS MORE ON POVERTY BEING THE REASON WHY THERE IS HUMAN TRAFFICKING*

1. My global issue is human trafficking.
2. Human trafficking is a form of modern day slavery. Human trafficking and prostitution is wrong. Women and children are kidnapped, tricked, raped, and forced into sex trafficking or forced child labor. Girls as young as you can imagine are sold by their families because they live in such poverty.

5. I agree that human trafficking has become one of the most crucial problems of today's society because my research on this topic confirms it.
I agree that human trafficking is a form of modern day slavery, a point that needs emphasizing since so many people still believe that slavery doesn't exist.
6. So what? What can we do to work towards a solution to this social issue?

  • Victims have created organizations and homes for other victims to help them recover their trauma/misery.

reading annotation blog #9: Choose one story from the first 200 pgs or so and connect it to a main argument that the authors make throughout the book.  Use 2-3 quotes from pgs. 100-202 to exemplify your story and/or the authors' overall argument.  2-3 paragraphs. I chose the story "Attacking Sex Trafficking." This story talks about the struggles of modern day slavery around the world. Reverend Becca helps these victims by getting them out of the streets and their pimps, and helping them find employment by her program. The author's main argument is that modern day slavery still exists and is very much a big issue. Becca's program helps victims start their new lives and prove that change is possible. They Say/I Say 1-3 1. In the first chapter, it starts off with Dr. X never really sitting why he needs to be stating his thesis. Basically, the lesson learned in this is that the writer needs to indicate their thesis clearly and also explain your response on what others say. In chapter 2, the authors discuss the art of summarizing. They state that it is important to summarize other's work and building off of others ideas to your own.  You should only be biased when your opinion shows up. In chapter 3, it states the art of quoting in which quoting is not rewriting someone else's argument into your own words. 2. 1. "Another way of opening up a debate involves starting with a proposition many people agree with in order to highlight the point(s) on which they ultimately disagree"(26).
