Why did authors use this photograph?
To show the student that graduated from Harvard University.
What were they trying to prove?
I think they were trying to prove that she looks like a normal your lady that graduated from school, but there aren't any details on how her life was before she graduated or how she got to where she was.
What motivated you to analyze the photograph you chose?
I chose this picture because it looks like a picture you would find in a school's magazine or banner. What motivated me was that a picture can look normal, but there could be meaning behind it. The photograph that I chose shows her with her diploma, but there's nothing stating that she grew up with barely going to elementary school, living in homeless shelters with her mother, or simply waking up at 4am to get to school.
Why is it important to me?
It's important to me because she is honestly inspiring to me. She came from nothing and saw that education was her escape.
What story, topic, or issue does the visual highlight or reinforce and why is that story/topic/issue of personal interest to you?
The story basically gives out a message of "You can achieve your goals, no matter where you come from, but you need to start somewhere." Personally, this story is interesting to me because I take things for granted and find my life hard where there's others that have it way harder than me. They have a little yet they still managed to strive and have a successful life.
Describe the visual text itself.
The text is young, African-American girl that is holding her diploma from Harvard University. What draws my attention is that she looks very happy and proud of herself. Pathos is definitely shown here because it shows Khadijah's emotion of happiness in the photograph.
Analyze the authors: Who are they? What is their situation? Purpose? Intended audience?
The author is Corey Harper. The purpose to this is "Khadijah's success is a reminder of how outside support can make all the difference for a young person who is blessed with the talent but lacks the backing that is routine in middle-class homes"(91). The intended audience is to students, teachers, mentors, and families.
Analyze the content and cultural connections: How did this visual connects hit you past experience, identity, generation. etc.? What was the author's intended message with the visual text? How did the visual fit within the author's overall arguments in the book so far?
It connects to me because I graduated from high school and was the first in my family to go to college. My mom only went up to high school and my father didn't go to school since he had support his family. In this generation, students get so distracted with unnecessary things like fraternities and sororities.

K: A girl with her Harvard degree, which interprets that she has just graduated from college. I can probably predict that she was a really hard worker and very dedicated.

L: What I've learned is that anything you set your mind to you can achieve. It's also very helpful when you have supporting peers and a motivation. Overall the writer gave me a clear idea and analysis on what was going on in the picture and I liked how she chose a story that personally relates to her.
